Insisting insulation is "sexy," President Barack Obama called Tuesday for new federal incentives to make millions of homes more energy efficient as a way to create jobs, save money for homeowners and reduce pollution. Speaking at a suburban Virginia Home Depot store cleared of shoppers, Obama said he wants Congress to provide temporary incentives to encourage consumers to rush out and buy such items as insulation, new windows and doors, and caulk to plug leaks where they live. Manufacturer Propex will has unveiled the Opus Roof Blanket, a synthetic steep-slope roofing underlayment the company says it improves on the drawbacks that have made some contractors reluctant to give up felt. Rather than a plastic-like sheen, the tan-colored Opus feels more like a matte woven fabric on the working surface. The result is a material that is more slip resistant than both synthetics and felts, the yet can remain exposed to UV rays for up to six months. You don’t have to be a home improvement expert to look at Leon and Jodi Johnson’s bathroom floor and see the Johnsons are victims of inexcusable incompetence. The tile floor looks horrible with discolored, cracking grout and misaligned rows, but the problem is more serious than mere aesthetics. In some places, multiple coins can be stacked beside the tiles and be even with the surface. The raised tiles present edges and corners sharp enough to cut someone and in fact, have cut the Johnsons.
